It’s that time of year once again –the 64th Cannes Film Festival is in full swing, with celebs and Hollywood stars gathering on the Croisette. Famous faces from Lady Gaga to Uma Thurman, and Nicolas Sarkozy’s wife Carla Bruni to Woody Allen have already arrived, with many more due to make an appearance in the coming days.
The spotlight will be well and truly on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, AKA Pirates 4, which hit UK screens on 14th May. Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz will of course rightfully be getting a lot of the reporters and photographers’ attention, but let’s hope they don’t cause so much of a distraction that we miss any of the embarrassing bits.
With Lindsay Lohan’s antics last year, we’re all keen to see what those celebs get up to this time. And we know you want to see some wardrobe mishaps and the more outrageous red carpet outfits, as well as soaking up the glitz and glamour of the world famous event. There should be no shortage of that at least, with stars like Sean Penn, Mel Gibson, Jude Law and Brangelina taking to the Riviera.
But of course, we’re also waiting to hear who will win what, and with many high profile films being released at the festival this year, competition will be tough. British film We Need to Talk About Kevin, adapted from Lionel Shriver’s award winning novel and directed by Lynne Ramsay, is shortlisted for the prestigious Palme d'Or.
Other movies launching and competing at Cannes include 1950s period piece The Tree of Life starring Brad Pitt, and Lars von Trier’s sci-fi thriller Melancholia starring Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kiefer Sutherland.
It’s already shaping up to be another diverse and exciting festival.
