BURNT OUT BRITS

A new survey has revealed working Brits are so stressed and under pressure that they need a break at least every 62 days. It sounds like a week or two on the beach every summer just isn’t long enough to recharge our batteries anymore. These days people in the UK are working longer hours than ever, which is taking its toll.

Apparently a quarter of people are under so much pressure they feel ‘desperate’ for a holiday every few weeks. But only one in five actually do get away that often, and most people (44%) go without a holiday for six months more.

According to the experts, stress can have a serious and even physical effect on people, and those who work too long without a break could become more anxious and aggressive and eventually develop aches and pains. Over-working can affect sleep patterns and your immune system, making your more likely to come down with colds or the flu.

The good news is that most people feel relaxed and refreshed after just a few days away from the office, but 7% need at least two weeks off and 4% never fully unwind. Apparently, men find it easier to relax than women, who take longer to swing into holiday mode.

Taking a break every few months, even if it’s just a long weekend away with the family is good for the modern professional as it reduces stress and keeps them productive at work.

So if you’re feeling a bit run down, maybe it’s time to plan that summer getaway and relax on a beach with a good book.
